VILNIUS, Feb 23, BNS - Lithuania's material and human support is very important for Ukrainian people, Kiev's ambassador in Vilnius, said on Thursday.

Volodymyr Yatsenkivskiy met with Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas (Lithuanian parliament), to discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine and Lithuania's assistance.

"The situation remains tense because the aggressor is not complacent. Naturally, we are doing everything possible to minimize people's suffering. In this respect, we want to say very sincerely that Lithuania's assistance and human support is very important for us," he told BNS after the meeting.

According to the diplomat, Lithuania and Ukraine hold the same views on what is happening in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

"All of us seek that Russia should do what the whole world expects it to do. That is the implementation of the Minsk commitments," he said.

During their meeting, Pranckietis and Yatsenkivskiy discuss the security situation and how Lithuania could contribute to ensuring the security of people affected by the war, as well as the strengthening of ties between the Ukrainian and Lithuanian parliaments.

In the ambassador's words, the current relationship between Lithuania and Ukraine should be called brotherly, rather than just friendly.

The speaker of the Seimas is scheduled to travel to Ukraine in April to attend the 10th Kiev security conference.
