RIGA - The Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday supported the Finance Ministry's proposal to earmark additional EUR 110 million for support to business representatives and employers.

The sum will be allocated from contingency funds.

So far, EUR 110 million had been allocated to ensure downtime benefits and support for current assets. Still, as Covid-19 is still spreading in Latvia, there are additional restrictions on business operations, Finance Ministry expects that more financing is necessary for providing the necessary support.

By February 22,  downtime benefits have been paid to 64,267 people for a total sum of EUR 36,139,067.

The state of emergency in Latvia in relation to Covid-19 pandemic is in force from November 9, 2020, until April 6, 2021.
